What does Complete involve?

A complete refractory relining is the most comprehensive measure in refractory construction: the entire lining of an industrial furnace is fully removed and replaced with a new lining optimised for current process requirements. Whether melting furnace, ladle or incineration plant – we plan every relining individually and deliver it on schedule.

At SBS Refractory Service, we combine more than 35 years of experience in refractory construction with state-of-the-art materials and methods. Our teams work independently of any manufacturer and select the optimum material combination for each project – tailored to temperature, medium, mechanical load and the required service life.

From the initial site inspection through to the final dry-out and heat-up, we manage the entire process. We coordinate closely with your production team to keep shutdown times to a minimum. On request, our installation crews work in multi-shift operation – including weekends and public holidays.

Our process

Step by step to the result

Structured, transparent and on schedule — this is how we work.

1

Preparation

Site inspection, condition analysis, material selection and shutdown planning

1–2 weeks

Our engineers carry out a detailed site inspection and analyse the condition of the existing lining. Based on the process parameters and your requirements, we develop a tailored material concept. Shutdown planning is coordinated closely with your production team.

2

Demolition

Professional removal of the old lining and disposal

2–5 days

Demolition is carried out with hydraulic hammers and specialist tools in strict compliance with safety regulations. Used material is properly sorted and disposed of through certified disposal channels. The steel shell is then inspected and repaired where necessary.

3

Brick lining

Layer-by-layer installation of the new refractory lining

3–14 days

The new lining is built up layer by layer – from the insulation layer and the safety lining through to the wear lining. Every course is checked for dimensional accuracy and joint quality. Where required, castables, ramming mixes or gunning (shotcreting) techniques are used.

4

Dry-out & heat-up

Controlled heat-up in accordance with manufacturer specifications

2–7 days

Dry-out and heat-up are carried out strictly in accordance with the heat-up curve specified by the material manufacturer. Temperature and humidity are continuously monitored and recorded. This ensures that no cracks or spalling occur as a result of heating up too quickly.

5

Acceptance

Documentation, quality inspection and handover

1 day

Once all work is complete, a comprehensive quality inspection is carried out, including dimensional checks and visual inspection. You receive complete as-built documentation covering all materials used, batch numbers and inspection records.
