Narrow, long and dimension-critical – a component with no tolerance to spare

Initial situation
A divider wall separates flow paths inside the combustion chamber and is an unusual component: very long, very narrow and thermally loaded on both sides. The refractory lining has to stay dimensionally accurate over its entire length, because any deviation changes the flow pattern – and with it the burnout directly.

Project data
The task
The geometry is narrow and elongated, so tolerances take effect over the entire length
The component is thermally loaded on both sides, so the lining must be equivalent on both faces
The work took place in the scaffolded combustion chamber, sealed off against dust
Formwork and compaction had to succeed evenly over the full length – rework in this position is laborious
The SBS approach
We built the formwork to fit the geometry of the divider wall exactly, rather than working with standard elements. This keeps the wall thickness constant over the entire length.
The lining was executed monolithically. On such a narrow component every joint is a potential weak point – a continuous cast avoids them from the outset.
Compaction and curing were checked section by section so that no voids could remain in the narrow cross-section.
