Initial situation
The chamber furnace did reach its target temperatures, but took noticeably long to get there and held them only with high burner output. The furnace wall was clearly warm to the touch from outside – an indication that the losses lay not in the process but in the furnace's own envelope.
Scope of services
- Survey of the existing insulation situation and surface temperatures
- Removal of the settled old insulation
- Multi-layer rebuild with staggered joints
- Separate enclosure of edges, connections and door guides
- Check of the surface temperature after completion
Project data
The task
The existing insulation had settled over the years and become permeable at the joints
The build-up had to be done without touching the internal lining
The new insulation layer must not obstruct access openings, connections or door guides
Thermal bridges at edges and transitions determine the actual effect
The SBS approach
We rebuilt the insulation from the outside – in multiple layers with staggered joints, so that no continuous gaps arise. In practice this is exactly where most of the effect is lost.
Edges, connections and door guides were enclosed separately rather than left out. Insulation is only as good as its weakest point.
The build-up was carried out without touching the internal lining. The furnace did not have to be stripped out for it.
