When the customer no longer puts it out to tender the second time
Initial situation
After the first partial repair in the firing structure, the same customer commissioned us again – this time for the charging chute. This area takes the charge material and is therefore loaded twice over: thermally from below and mechanically from above by every piece of material thrown in. The old lining was knocked out at the edges and cracked in the arch.

Project data
The task
The chute is narrow and has to be worked overhead – formwork and casting in confined conditions
The arch zone had to connect to the side walls without joints
Mechanical abrasion from the charge material calls for a resistant quality, not merely a heat-resistant one
The assignment had to fit into the same shutdown window as the remaining work
The SBS approach
We stripped the chute completely and relined it monolithically. Particularly at edges under mechanical load, a continuous cast is superior to brickwork – there is no joint at which a brick can be loosened.
The arch zone was cast in the same operation, so that wall and roof form a single continuous shell.
Because the customer already knew us, coordination loops fell away: access, contacts and shutdown planning were settled from the start. The second assignment got going noticeably faster than the first.
